Calm - Yin Yoga

Relax, restore and rejuvenate with long held poses designed to enhance your energy flow


Time out. Classes in the Calm category stretch and relax you. They’re the perfect complement to a workout or hectic daily schedule. Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of Yoga with poses that are held for longer periods of time, five minutes or longer per pose is typical. Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues, the tendons, fascia, and ligaments, with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. They are also designed to improve the flow of qi, the subtle energy said in Chinese medicine to run through the meridian pathways of the body. Yin is not intended as a complete practice in itself, but rather as a complement to more active forms of Yoga and exercise.

Why is it good for me?


Improved qi flow is hypothesised to improve organ health, immunity, and emotional well-being. A more meditative approach to Yoga, Yin aims at cultivating awareness of one's inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality. Because deep poses are held for a long period of time, you will see improved flexibility, mobility and postural alignment


What will I do?


In this practice you will hold floor based poses sometimes up to 8 minutes. Poses are usually lying, but sometimes seated. It is a meditative practice and you will be taught to bring focus and attention to your breath and mind


What should I bring?


We have all the equipment you need, including Yoga mats. But feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Make sure you wear comfortable warm clothes like a jumper and socks. We do recommend bringing a Yoga towel, which we sell at reception. During Yin Yoga, make sure you grab a block, belt, eye pillow and bolster as you set up your mat
